Binfield Church of England Primary School

Our village Primary School has a vacancy for a Foundation Governor.

As an Aided School, the role of the Governing Body is wide ranging, in particular governors have the legal responsibility for: Admissions, Buildings, Personnel and Religious Education.

The Governing Body meet twice a term in the evening. Much of the work is conducted by six committees which meet once or twice a term and report back to the full Governing Body meetings.

A variety of training courses are arranged by both Bracknell Forest education department and the Oxford Diocese and governors are expected to attend those appropriate to their needs.

Foundation Governors are appointed by the Oxford Diocese and normally serve for a term of four years. In particular a foundation governor should demonstrate a commitment to the distinctive ethos of the school and its mission and role as a member of the Diocesan family of schools.

With over 60 staff on the payroll and the demands of maintaining the premises with an ever restricted budget we are seeking a team player with enthusiasm and suitable skills which they think would benefit our wonderful village school.

If interested or for further information, please contact the school office in the first instance, telephone 860106.

Would you make a Bell Ringer?

A couple of years ago an appeal was made for members of the congregation and others to learn the ancient art of bell ringing. Of the seven who started three still remain and are all reasonably competent to ring for Sunday services. Of the others one moved to Dubai and others have family commitments. As you can see there appears to be a fifty-fifty chance that you can become a competent ringer. We are not able to ring regularly for Sunday services because of a lack of numbers. This is really unsatisfactory and there must be many in the village who can learn to ring effectively – give it a go! We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7-30 to 9-00 and have a very good trainer. Ring John Harper on 425785.

Required - Deputy Clock Winder

Are you fit enough to climb the spiral staircase at All Saints to wind our ancient clock once a week?
We are fortunate to have found a very able clock winder who has just passed a major test of moving the clock on one hour for British Summer Time. Unfortunately for us Philip is sometimes away and requires a deputy to step in when he is on vacation. Training in the ancient art of clock winding will be given to any enthusiast. There is no pay for this necessary service to the church. If interested then please contact David Fawcett on 422495.

Dates:
Family Services 19th & 26th July
Holiday Club Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th July
Leader forms are available NOW via the church, library, or school.

It may seem like a long way into the future, especially as it is still cold outside, but summer is approaching fast. And summer means that Holiday Club is not too far away. Plans are already starting for what I hope will be another fantastic event this year, with many children coming to church and not only having a great time but also learning and experiencing more of the amazing God that we worship. In order to make Holiday Club the great experience we hope for it takes a lot of volunteers. Please do consider helping – you don’t need any previous experience – just a willingness to learn. If you’ve helped before, what’s stopping you helping again. The dates for Holiday Club are listed above – book your holidays to fit around it!!!

The Silver Service 2009 held monthly in St Mark’s Church

Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

It is a gentle, relaxed time with a short service, and then we enjoy a hot lunch together. It is an opportunity for older people, not all of whom attend our churches, to participate in a quiet service and then socialise afterwards. Do come and join us on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 12 o’clock in St Mark’s Church. The next service is on the 26th May, and transport is available for any who might need it.
Just contact Margareta Hawkins on 01344 411681.

Open Door

Open Door is a lovely, simple service usually held at 10am on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in a month (the dates are in the Beacon) - everyone is welcome and we have a crèche facility if your children are not yet at school.  The service is informal, consisting of three worship songs, a short talk and prayers.
